If Series combination is taken total internal resistance of cells will be $r\times n$ and therefore since $r>>R$ the current will be $\frac{e}{nr}$ which will be less compared to if parallel combination of cells is used. Moreover in parallel combination the equivalent resistance will be $\frac{r}{n}$ and hence both statements are correct and R is the correct explanation of A
