Solution

The correct option is A If both assertion and reason are true and reason is the correct explanation of assertion.
A fast muscle is that that has to contract many times but for short intervals, it exhausts its store of ATP and glycogen and accumulates lactic acid. Hence, its contractility gradually decreases and finally stops. This is muscle fatigue.
During active work or exercise, the rate of oxygen supply by the lungs falls short of the requirement of the muscle. Hence, lactic acid accumulates in the muscle and the breathing gradually becomes hard to enhance oxygen intake by the lungs. This is known as the oxygen debt.
So, the correct option is 'If both assertion and reason are true and the reason is the correct explanation of assertion.'
