Transportation in plants occur in the following manner:
  • Water is transported through xylem. Water enters the root hairs through osmosis. As water builds up in the roots, it creates a pressure pushing the water up. This pressure is called root pressure. Root pressure is sufficient to push water to small heights. To transport water in tall trees, transpiration pull is required.
  • Food is transported from leaves to all parts of the plants through phloem actively (using ATP). The transportation of food is known as translocation.
