Assertion is correct as suspended particulate matter (SPM) is an important pollutant released by diesel vehicles. SPM is a microscopic solid or liquid matter suspended in the Earth's atmosphere. They are finely divided solids or liquids that may be dispersed through the air from combustion processes, industrial activities or natural sources. Particulate matter includes dust, smoke, soot, pollen and soil particles.
Reason is correct as well but it is not correct explanation of assertion. Catalytic converters greatly reduce pollution caused by automobiles, is a device used to reduce the emissions from an internal combustion engine, they are involved in reducing gaseous pollutants by converting COCO2;NO2N2 etc. Thus, decrease the amount of pollutant. They cannot reduce emission of SPM. Hence, option B is correct.
