Bengal Partition was implemented in 1905. The British spread the narrative that the partition would help create a Muslim majority province where the Hindus would not be able to encroach upon the interests of the Muslim. All of this culminated with the formation of the Muslim League in 1906, and the Muslims started calling the Swadeshi Movement a hoax. The Morley-Minto Reforms of 1909 introduced principles of the separate electorate for Muslims which further deepened the divide between the Hindus and the Muslims.
