Banda Singh Bahadur was forced to fall back to Gurdas Nangal in a battle against the Mughals. To guard himself and his army, he built a trench and filled it so as to keep the Mughals at bay. This proved to be a mistake as they soon ran out of resources like food. Vinod Singh tried to convince Banda Singh to escape, as they had lost the Battle, but the latter wanted to fight till the end.
