In an external field, Both experiences different amount of forces, α particle experiences twice the force but the mass of α particles are huge as compared to β particles which are nothing but electrons. so, both experiences different deflections.
For case of specific charge, in α particles the q/m ratio is very low as compared to α particles while charge on α particle is just twice that on β particle.
