Solution

The correct option is A Both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion
Nitrogenous wastes in the body tend to form toxic ammonia. Hence, these wastes need to be excreted from the body. It is either excreted as ammonia or urea or uric acid. Ammonotelic organisms are those which excrete nitrogenous waste as soluble ammonia. Examples include protozoans, crustaceans. Due to the toxic nature, ammonia should be eliminated from the body as rapidly as it is formed. It is very soluble in water. Uricotelic organisms are those which remove nitrogenous waste in the form of uric acid. Examples include lizards, snakes, birds. As compared to ammonia and urea, uric acid is the least toxic and the least soluble in water. Ureotelic organism excretes excess nitrogen in the form of urea. Urea is less toxic and needs less water when compared to ammonia. Examples include cartilaginous fish, mammals.
Thus, the correct answer is 'Both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion.'
