Electromagnetic induction states that when magnetic flux linked with a coil is changed, an emf is induced in the coil which is called induced emf.
AC generator uses the same principle of electromagnetic induction.
In an AC generator a coil is rotated in presence of a constant magnetic field, this changes the magnetic flux linked to it and an emf is induced which in turn produces a periodically changing current called alternating current.

And the AC is called alternating current because it changes direction
periodically.

Assertion and Reason both are correct but reason is not the correct explanation of assertion .
