Question

Assertion :At a fixed temperature, silicon will have minimum conductivity when it has a smaller acceptor doping. Reason: The conductivity of an intrinsic semiconductor is slightly higher than that of a lightly doped p-type.

Solution

The correct option is C Assertion is correct but Reason is incorrect
Doping a semiconductor is usually done by a 3rd group(n-type) or 5th group(p-type) element from a periodic table. This provides extra electrons and holes and hence increases the conductivity. More the doping, more is the conductivity of a doped semiconductor. So, the Assertion is correct and the Reason is incorrect.
