Question

Assertion :At absolute zero semiconductors behaves as the ideal insulator. Reason: In semiconductor electron vibration happen at room temperature. But at very low-temperature electron can not get energy and so it can not vibrate. and so current can not pass,so semiconductor act as an insulator.

Solution

The correct option is A Both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion
At absolute zero, at (0 K), the covalent bonds between atoms in a semiconductor are complete. They are held at their mean position, and cannot vibrate. As a result, there are no free electrons available for conduction of current. Hence, semiconductor behaves as an insulator at T=0K.
