Atavism is the reappearance of an ancestral character that has been lost during the process of evolution. For example, humans lost their tails during evolution, but may appear in the human progeny of today. However, the third molars also called the wisdom teeth and hair are not lost they appear late in the lifetime (third molars) or decrease in density (hair), as their utility has been decreased. Therefore they can be termed as vestigial, which probably may be lost in near future.
