Atherosclerosis is a disease in which wall of arteries get thickened due to deposition of lipids, cholesterol, calcium and fibrous tissues. This results in narrowing of lumen of arteries. There is build up of plaque of cholesterol and triglycerides or fat molecules due to which blockage occurs in the arteries and blood flow is disrupted. Hence, both statements a and b are true and statement b is correct reason for statement a.
