Transport of CO2 by blood is much easier than that of oxygen due to high solubility of CO2 in water.
Approximately 70% of CO2 is transported through RBCs. This CO2 enters into the RBC, where it reacts with water to form carbonic acid in the presence of carbonic anhydrase. most of the carbonic acid rapidly dissociates to form bicarbonate and hydrogen ions.
So, the assertion is correct but the reason is incorrect.
