Assertion : - Colour of KMno4 disappear when H2 gas is bubbled through it.

Reason :- Dihydrogen gas reduces MnO4 - ions to Mn 2+ ions which are colourless.

Answer says assertion is true but reason is false. Explain.

KMnO4 + H2 → 2MnO2 + 2KOH + 2H2O Here, the assertion is right. But when pottassium permanganate is treated with hydrogen, Mn(IV) is formed which is colourless.Not Mn(II).
Hence the reason given is false.
