Half filled and completely filled subshells are more stable.
Fe3+ with 3d5 electronic configuration contains half filled 3d orbital and is more stable whereas
Fe2+ with 3d4 electronic configuration is less stable.
However Cu2+ with 3d9 electronic configuration is more stable than Cu+ with 3d10 electronic configuration.
This is because electrode potential is more significant in determining stable oxidation state than electronic configuration.
The standard electrode potential for Cu2+/Cu is lower than the standard electrode potential for Cu+/Cu
Thus, Both Assertion and Reason are correct but Reason is not the correct explanation for Assertion.
