Density is the ratio of mass to volume. When the temperature varies, the volume of liquid changes. Eg- liquid expands on heating. So due to this volume changes and the density varies with change in temperature.

Water has a unique property of anomalous expansion. When water is heated from $0^{o} C$ to $4^{o} C$ it contracts continuously instead of expanding. That means its volume decreases upto $4^{o} C$ . When water heated from $4^{o} C$ its expansion becomes normal like the expansion of other liquids.

Hence, Assertion is correct but Reason is incorrect.
