Density is the ratio of mass to volume. When the temperature varies, the volume of liquid changes. Eg- liquid expands on heating. So due to this volume changes and the density varies with change in temperature.

Water has a unique property of anomalous expansion. When water is heated from 0oC to 4oC it contracts continuously instead of expanding. That means its volume decreases upto 4oC. When water heated from 4oC its expansion becomes normal like the expansion of other liquids.

Hence, Assertion is correct but Reason is incorrect.
