Solution

The correct option is A Both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion
The term autonomous means independent. Dominance is however not an autonomous feature of a gene. In some cases, the dominant gene expresses the phenotype irrespective of its homozygous or heterozygous condition. For eg. TT (homozygous) will produce Tall and Tt (heterozygous) will also produce Tall. So the expression is independent in this case or autonomous. However, it depends as much on the gene product and the production of a particular phenotype from this product and hence it is not an autonomous feature.
This can be seen in the cases of incomplete dominance where an intermediate phenotype progeny is obtained despite the presence of dominant genes. The ABO blood grouping system is also an example showing nonautonomous of dominance.
So, the correct option is ' Both assertion and reason are correct, and reason is the correct explanation for assertion.'
