Arithmetic growth is a type of growth in which the growth rate of an organism remains constant and increase in growth occurs in arithmetic progression. It is found in roots or shoots of plants elongating at a constant rate.

During arithmetic growth, the cells divide in such a fashion that one daughter cell retains the capacity to divide further while the other cell grows and differentiates. The process continues. Mathematically it is expressed as
Lt=L0+rt
Lt = length after time t
L0 = length at the beginning
r= growth rate
On plotting growth against time, a linear curve is obtained.
