Assertion is correct as during fertilization only head of the sperm enters egg. Fertilization is the fusion of male and female gametes to form zygote occurring in the ampulla of the uterine tube.
Reason is incorrect as the penetration of the egg cell by the chromosome-containing part of the sperm cell causes a reaction, which prevents additional sperm cells from entering the egg. So, if several spermatozoa hit the egg at same time, all of them can not enter the egg and only one sperm enters and causes fertilization.
Therefore, the correct answer is option C.
