Solution

The correct option is C

Assertion is correct but Reason is incorrect

Fungi are ubiquitous. Most of them are moisture-loving and terrestrial and few are aquatic. They may also be epiphytic (i.e., grow on other plants e.g, Armillaria), symbiotic (i.e., live in an association with other plants e.g., lichens, mycorrhiza), saprophytic (i.e., grow on dead organic matter e.g., Mucor), predacious (i. e., eat other organisms e.g., Dactydela) and parasitic (i.e., Erysiphe, phytophthora etc.).
They are achlorophyllous i.e.. they do not have chlorophyll hence, cannot photosynthesise. They are heterotrophic in nutrition and show an absorptive type of nutrition.
So the correct option is C.
