Professor Ingo Potrykus and his team genetically engineered rice to produced 𝛃-carotene, which is a precursor of vitamin A. As 𝛃-carotene imparts a golden yellow colour to the rice, it is named golden rice.

The 𝛃-carotene in the rice gets converted to vitamin A in the liver. Hence, by just including golden rice in one’s regular meals, vitamin A deficiecy and night blindness can be prevented. So the assertion is true but the reason is false.
