Golden rice (Oryza sativa ) is a biofortified (containing enhanced nutritional content) variety of rice produced by introducing the gene for ꞵ - carotene synthesis from daffodil into the genome of normal rice enabling it to sysnthesis ꞵ - carotene, a precursor of vitamin A. So that it can help in eliminating the night blindness caused due to vitamin A deficiency. Night blindness is the inability to see well at night or in poor light conditions.
