Let us calculate the oxidation state of Cl in HClO4 ;
+1+x+ (4×(2) = 0
So,x=1+8
=7
Hence. the oxidation state of Cl in HClO4 is 7.
Let us calculate the oxidation state of Cl in HClO3 ;
+1+x+ (3×(2) =0
So, x=1+6
=5
Hence. the oxidation state of Cl in HClO4 is 5.
So, we conclude that the oxidation state of Cl is less in HClO3 than HClO4
