Heat of hydrogenation is the amount of heat required to break C=C bond for addition of Hydrogen, to convert it into an alkene.
More stable the alkene, more heat is required to break the double bond.
Alkene with more α hydrogen are most stable.
but2ene has 6αH & but1ene has 2αH. Thus but2ene is more stable than but1ene. Thus but2ene will have lower energy than but1ene.

By the energy diagram we can see that to convert alkene to alkane more energy is required in case of but1ene.
Thus Assertion is correct and Reason is the correct explanation of Assertion.
