Assertion Heterolytic fission is favoured when bonding atoms have electronegativity differences and the presence of polar solvents at low temperatures. Thus, occurs readily in polar covalent bonds.

Reason In polar covalent bond, shared pair of electron is displaced towards the more electronegative atom and hence in heterolytic fission, the electron pair is easily taken away by more electronegative atoms.

Hence, both Assertion and Reason are correct but Reason is not the correct explanation for Assertion.
