Distance travelled in the last second of upward journey is equal to the distance travelled in the first second of downward journey.
At the highest point, velocity of the particle is 0
Distance travelled in 1st second of downward journey = 12gt2 (By second equation of motion)
=12×9.8×(1)2
=4.9 m
Hence, distance travelled in last second of the upward journey is independent of the velocity of projection.
