Potential energy is the amount of work that the force due to the position of the body

W=mgh

The change in kinetic energy is given as

ΔK.E.=Wext

ΔK.E.=Wcon+Wnoncon

ΔK.E.=P.E.+Wnoncon

ΔK.E.+P.E.=Wnoncon

So if the work done by the potential energy is positive that means the system is doing work and hence the kinetic energy will increase.

Hence, both the assertion and reason are correct.
