In acidic solution, the concentration of actual sulfide ion is very low. This means that a quite basic cation is required to react with the available hydrogen sulfide (due to common ion effect).
Copper ions are more basic than zinc ions, so the copper can react with hydrogen sulfide, strip away the hydrogen, and form the insoluble CuS.
Zinc is not as basic and cannot strip away the H atoms to form the sulfide.
