Alcohol is degraded to less harmful products in the liver and is excreted out of body, however it is not utilized for release of energy.
In liver, the alcohol is first oxidised into alcetaldehyde and then into acetone. The latter is converted into acetyl CoA, which is used up in Kreb's cycle.

Therefore, both assertion and reason are false.
