Solution

The correct option is C Assertion is correct but Reason is incorrect.
The vascular system in plants is made of xylem and phloem which extends throughout the plant. The xylem is made up of tracheary elements (the principle conductive tissues) differentiated as tracheids and vessel elements. While tracheids form the chief water-conducting elements in gymnosperms and other seedless vascular plants, these are also present in angiosperms. However, vessels are the chief water-conducting elements in the angiosperms. The final walls of vessels are perforated that allows an unimpeded flow of water from vessel to vessel, thus making these to be more efficient water conductors than the tracheids.
The parenchyma cells present in the xylem are meant for storage of various other substances.
Therefore, the correct answer is option C.
