The pollen tube releases male gametes in the embryo sac inside the ovule where one of the male gametes fuses with egg cell to form a zygote and the other male gamete fuses with the secondary nucleus to form primary endosperm nucleus. After fertilisation, ovule develops into seed which contains the embryo. Hence, assertion is correct.
Generally fruit is formed as a result of fertilisation as the ovary develops into a fruit after fertilisation. But sometimes, fruit is also formed without the fertilisation of egg cell and this is known as parthenocarpy and such fruits which are formed without fertilisation, are called parthenocarpic fruits. Hence, reason is also correct but it is not correct explanation for assertion.
