Crossing over is the process of exchange of genetic material between non-sister chromatids of homologous chromosomes to produce new genetics combinations or recombinant phenotypes. The linkage is the tendency of closely placed genes on a chromosome to stay together during inheritance (no crossover and independent assortment).
