Solution

The correct option is C Assertion is correct but Reason is incorrect.
  • In roots, the pericycle is the seat of origin of lateral roots. The pericycle regulates the formation of lateral roots by rapidly dividing near the xylem elements of the root.
  • In stems present on the inner side of the endodermis and above the phloem in the form of semi-lunar patches of sclerenchyma. Pericycle is also seat of origin of adventitious roots. Parenchymatous pericycle serves as a storage layer. It doesn't have any role in secondary growth.
  • So, the correct answer is 'Assertion is correct but Reason is incorrect'.
