The correct option is A Both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion

Rate of change of momentum α applied force

(PTαF)

So when pumped to heap of sands PT (rate of change of momentum) is less because heap goes downward with body and increases time intervals, due to which less force is exerted on body.

And greater time over which motion of athlete is stopped experience less force on heap sand and due to greater distance less force is experienced.

So, both assertion and reason are correct and reason is correct explanation of assertion.
