In any nuclear reaction, the sum of the atomic numbers of the reactants is equal to the sum of the atomic numbers of products. Similarly, the some of the mass numbers of the reactants is equal to the sum of the mass numbers of products. For example, consider the nuclear reaction 22688Ra86Rn222Rn+42He
The sum of the mass numbers of products is 222+4=226. It is equal to the mass number of reactant.
Similarly, the sum of the atomic numbers of products is 86+2=88.
It is equal to the atomic number of the reactant.
