When the man points his rifle in the same direction as target, then the bullet after being fired experience a downward acceleration $\left(g\right)$ during its subsequent motion and thus it gets displaced downward a little bit. Horizontal range $R=\frac{u^{2}sin\left(2\theta \right)}{g}$

Thus $R$ depends on the angle of projectile with the horizontal.
