Question

Assertion :In the electric field E=(4ˆi+4ˆj) N/C, electric potential at A(4 m, 0) is more than the electric potential at B(0, 4 m) Reason: Electric lines of forces always travel from higher potential to lower potential.

Solution

The correct option is D Assertion is incorrect but Reason are correct
The potential is given as, ExdxEydy=-4x-4y$
At, A(4,0) potential is 16. And at A(0,4) potential is 16.
So potential is same at both points.
As Electrostatic force is conservative, direction of Electric field is towards decreasing potential energy i.e., from higher potential to lower potential.
So assertion is incorrect and reason is correct.
