In the reactivity series, the metals are placed according to their reactivity. Thus, a metal placed above another can displace the latter from it's salt solution. Since, Magnesium is placed above Iron, it can displace iron in ferrous sulphate solution but iron can't replace magnesium from it's salt solution.
