Solution

The correct option is A Both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion
The main function of the small intestine is the absorption of nutrients and minerals. The small intestine is divided into three regions, namely duodenum, jejunum, and ileum. In the duodenum, the absorption of food begins. The bile and pancreatic juice enter in this part. The jejunum is the second part of the small intestine. It consists of numerous finger-like projections called as villi and microvilli which helps in absorption of food into the bloodstream. Also, villi also increase the surface area. Hence, maximum absorption of food occurs here. The last part of the intestine, ileum absorbs vitamin B12, bile acids, and remaining nutrients.
Thus, the correct answer is 'Both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion.'
