Solution
The correct option is C If A is correct and R is wrong. Tea requires a moderately hot and humid climate. Climate influences yield, crop distribution and quality. Therefore, before cultivating tea in a new area, the suitability of the climate is the first point to be considered. Tea grows best on well-drained fertile acid soil on high lands. Tea soils are classified as latosols and extend along the Western Ghats and run in north to south direction parallel and close to the west coast of the peninsula. The south Indian tea districts vary in elevation from 300 to 25oom above MSL, and the annual rainfall varies from 900 to 7500 mm. In geological origin, the soils are mainly derived from gneissic rocks which had undergone considerable weathering as shown by their acidic nature and low calcium content while they are abundant in sesquioxides which results in strong P fixation. Clayey soil is more preferred. Maximum tea in India is given in Assam and West Bengal.
