Methane acts as a greenhouse gas by absorbing the infra-red radiations reflected by the earth's surface and preventing them from reflecting back to space. This increases the overall temperature of the earth, called global warming. Methane is released from the biogas plants, combustion of coal, paddy fields etc. and contribute 20% in the global warming.

Multipoint fuel injection engines have no effect on the control of methane release. These are meant to increase the efficiency of the combustion of the fuel.
