The germinal epithelium of the ovary contains somatic regions and germ cell regions. The oogonia gets infiltrated and surrounded by follicular cells developed from the somatic cells. This causes the formation of the primordial follicles. The somatic cells of the follicles support oocyte growth and development. These follicular cells differentiate later into granulosa cells.
