Nitrobenzene does not undergo Friedel-Craft's alkylation because the nitro group is a very strong electron-withdrawing group, which makes the aromatic system that its attached to very electron-poor.

And since a Friedel-Crafts acylation involves an acid-catalyzed addition of an electrophile (usually an acid chloride), which is also electron poor, to an aromatic ring, little or no reaction will occur if the aromatic ring is also electron deficient.

Nitrobenzene is used as a solvent in laboratory and industry, especially for electrophilic reagents.

Therefore, both assertion and reason are correct but the reason is not the correct explanation for an assertion.
