Oxygen is more electronegative than sulphur, yet H2S is acidic, while H2O is neutral.
H-S bond is weaker than O-H bond due to greater size of S than that of O. It is easier to remove a proton from S-H bond than from O-H bond.
This can also be explained on the bases of fall in dissociation energy and charge density. Smaller oxide ion has larger charge density than bigger sulphide ion. Hence, sulphide ion is more stable and weaker base than oxide ion. Due to this, hydrogen sulphide is acidic and water is neutral.
Hence, both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion.
