Solution:-

For, purely Inductive circuit $i=\frac{V_m}{X_L}\sin (\omega t-\varphi )$

where $\varphi$ is phase which is positive i.e. $\frac{\pi }{2}$, hence Assertion is correct. Now if we put $\varphi =\frac{\pi }{2}$ in i then i lags behind but not voltage as shown.
