Polymorphism is one of the characteristic feature of coelenterate animals which helps in alternation of generation. Some coelenterates live in polymorphic colonies where individual members perform different functions i.e., division of labour.
The life cycle of coelentrates is simple in the monomorphic form (in Hydra) but with the advancement of polymorphism reproductive tasks are divided.
The polyp is capable only of asexual reproduction and sexual reproduction is confined to the gonophores which gives rise to alternation of generation (metagenesis). The sexual polypod alternates with the sexual medusoid form. So, the correct answer is C.
