Solution

The correct option is C Both Assertion and Reason are correct and Reason is the correct explanation for Assertion.
ψ (psi) denotes water potential. It is the potential energy of water per unit volume corresponding to pure water based on mentioned circumstances and are expressed in units of pressure. Water potential decreases with increases in solute concentration. Pure water has the highest water potential which is not under any pressure and at standard temperature is taken as zero. The osmotic potential ( Ψ π) of pure water is defined to be zero because there is no solute and the pressure in the container is zero.
So, the correct answer is option C.
