Sickle anemia is caused by a single missense mutation at a codon 6 of the beta-globin gene, as a result of this mutation, the glutamic acid at position 6 in the normal protein is changed to a valine in the mutant protein. It occurs because of deletion and insertion of a base that codes for Glutamic acid (CUC) and Valine (CAC)
